Antonia Rossi delivers to us a work of an infinite delicacy, which by its precision and choices, takes up a cinematographic challenge successfully: to combine the political portrait with introspection, by giving a true consistency to the flow of the reminiscences.

Sinopsis
Outline
Luego del golpe de estado de 1973, varios chilenos fueron exiliados por razones políticas. Algunos buscaron refugio en Roma, asentándose y formando a sus familias allá, donde sus niños crecieron como italianos. En 1989, a medida que Chile recuperaba la democracia, muchas familias decidieron regresar trayendo consigo a sus hijos, quienes nunca habían conocido Chile salvo en fotos y a través de historias.
En una borrosa línea entre documental y ficción “El Eco de las Canciones” explora los sueños y memorias de aquellos adolescentes sobre el exilio y el regreso, el deambular en sus vidas, y sus perspectivas en el Chile actual.
After the cup d’état of 1973, several Chileans were exiled for political reasons. Some of them sought refuge in Rome, settling and raising their families in Italy. Many children were born in those families and they grew up as Italians. In 1989, as Chile regained Democracy, several families decided to return and they brought along these teenagers, who had never knew their parents’ homeland other than in pictures or stories.
In a blurry line between documentary and fiction, The Echo of Songs explores these young people’s dreams and memories about exile and return, the wandering on their lives, and their perspective on today’s Chile.

About Director Antonia Rossi
Antonia Rossi Charnes, nace en Roma (Italia) en 1978, donde reside hasta 1988, año en el que vuelve con su familia a Chile. En 1996 entra a la carrera de cine en la Universidad Arcis donde se titula el 2000. El 2001 realiza un Magíster en Artes Visuales en la Universidad de Chile. Se ha desempeñado como realizadora audiovisual desde 1999. Dirigió cuatro cortos de ficción: “Vuelta a Casa” (2000 – 16 mm); “Mediatarde” (2001 – 16 mm); “Autostop” (2003 – minidv); “Intervalo” (2005 – HD); y dos documentales: “La pampa” (2004 – minidv), “Ensayo” (2005 – Hdv). En el 2002 se integra al colectivo de arte O-inc realizando en conjunto videos performance y la exposiciones “Living Fasat Food” y “O-Incland, Ciudad Capital”. Como docente ha realizado clases de: Estética, Análisis del film, Lenguaje Cinematográfico y talleres de realización, en la Universidad Arcis, la Universidad de Santiago, la Universidad del Desarrollo y en Balmaceda 1215 .
Antonia Rossi Charnes was born in Rome, Italy in 1978 where she lives until 1988 when she returns to Chile together with her family. In 1996 she enters Arcis University to study Cinematography and finishes in the year 2000. In 2001 she enters Post graduate studies in Visual Arts at the University of Chile. She has worked as film director and editor since 1999. She has directed several shorts and the feature experimental documentary Ensayo, based on a theatre laboratory in Valparaíso directed by Nestor Cantillana and supported by the National Fund of Arts 2005. In 2002 she joins the art collective, O’inc, together with visual artist Hernan Rivera, Rene Valenzuela and Oscar Raby, developing video performances (Los pascueros, campaña de posicionamiento), and the expositions “living fasat food” in the art gallery Animal and O-incland, Capital City in the Cultural Center Matucana 100, work which was nominated to the national art prize Altazor 2007. She has also given classes of aesthetics, film analysis, cinematic language, and filmmaking workshops at Arcis University, Santiago University and the Cultural Center 1215 in Valparaíso. In 2006 she earns a scholarship of the National Audiovisual Fund to begin the investigation of her documentary “The Echo of Songs”. One year later, her project won the same fund to start the film production, and in 2008 the film won the fund again in post-production stage.
